Over 100 projects competed in LUKSO’s second Hackathon contest, with about $500,000 in prizes ranging across 7 categories. The Luksoverse sponsored a small team to create a Universal Profile login app that anyone with a WordPress website can incorporate into their site for free.
WordPress is used by nearly half of a billion active websites, and the goal of the WordUP! Team was to create awareness and incentive (through a simple app) for Web2 site-owners to try out a Web3-style application. Time will tell if it is adopted.
Hackathon Categories ranged from DAOs to Social Media… all incorporating LUKSO’s ERC-725 Standard, of course. The WordUP! Login app came in 3rd place in the Blue Sky Category… dubiously though, since the judges decided to punish two categories for not being “cool enough”, by eliminating the 1st-place prizes. Must be a German thing, ehem.
None-the-less, the community recognized the importance of reaching out to existing Web2 websites with free apps that introduce the user-base to Web3 tools… and voted The WordUP! App into a tie for 1st place with another Hackathon project called LookSo.
LookSo is a Dropps.io project created by Samuel Videau @samuel_vd and Carlos Caldas @ccaldas_ that also uses Universal Profiles to create a social media app. They also won 1st prize in the highly competitive social media category.
Well done, guys!
At any rate, The Luksoverse is happy to win some prize money… because after bootstrapping The Verse for nine months, we’ll finally be able to make some upgrades to our website… and, of course, we have the community to thank for that.
Keep an eye out for new and positive changes in the near future.
Cheers
